Why the PortaSplit is so hard to find
The Midea PortaSplit is a mobile 'split' air conditioner: its compressor sits outside, making it significantly quieter than a classic monoblock. This positioning, rare in the portable market, has made it one of the most sought-after units during the first heatwaves — and demand far outstrips the volumes restocked.
The result: stock shortages are structural during the season, not a one-off incident. Stock comes back in waves, retailer by retailer, and often sells out within hours. Manually checking every website several times a day is exhausting and rarely pays off — that's precisely the problem ClimRadar solves by checking availability every 10 minutes at all retailers.
The pressure isn't just a buyer's impression: in early July, Midea announced emergency shipments to Europe to try to keep up with demand (Numerama, July 2026). In the meantime, every batch arriving in France sells out almost immediately.
The specialist press tells the same story: initial volumes calibrated for modest success, a heatwave that causes orders to explode within days, and a China-to-Europe supply chain spanning several weeks that prevents any quick catch-up (Journal du Geek, June 2026). In other words: the shortage isn't a marketing operation, it's a real bottleneck.
How quickly does stock go? What our data shows
Between late June and mid-July 2026, ClimRadar observed 48 complete PortaSplit restocks at 6 French retailers — from return to stock through to sell-out. Half of these windows closed in under 1 h.
This is the data point that changes everything: a restock isn't something you wait for — it's something you catch. And the pace varies significantly from one retailer to another, as our detailed data shows.

Where to buy the Midea PortaSplit in France?
The PortaSplit 12,000 BTU is listed at Leroy Merlin, Castorama, ManoMano, Amazon, Darty, Fnac and Tecnomat (formerly Bricoman) — the retailers tracked in the table at the top of the page. They don't all perform equally: over our measurement window, Castorama was by far the most frequently restocked, while at Darty or Fnac the product only appeared briefly. Boulanger, for its part, removed its product listing in early July.
Two tips if you're monitoring manually: follow the direct product page rather than the site's search engine (a page becomes orderable before it's reindexed), and treat 'available in store' status with caution — online inventory sometimes lags behind what's actually on the shelf. A call to the store before travelling remains the most reliable confirmation.

Retailer by retailer: what our data shows
Restocking behaviour is far from uniform. Here, retailer by retailer, is what our public readings and verifiable facts allow us to say — no promises, no crystal ball.
Leroy Merlin
The retailer lists the PortaSplit online and in store, and restocks it regularly: 6 complete cycles observed since late June, with the longest windows in our data — around 16 hours median, up to two days. Statistically it is the best chance for a patient buyer; check your local store’s availability before making the trip. Store-by-store, real-time detail remains reserved for subscribers.
Castorama
By far the most active retailer in our measurement window: 25 restocks in twelve days. The flip side: windows are short — under an hour median. A Castorama stock event plays out in the hour after it appears, rarely beyond.
ManoMano
Marketplace: multiple sellers can list the same product at different prices, and offers appear and disappear quickly. Always check the seller's name and the gap against the recommended price of €999 before confirming your cart.
Amazon
The amazon.fr listing exists and comes back into stock from time to time. Depending on the moment, the offer is fulfilled by Amazon or by a third-party seller — and that is where surcharges hide. Same reflex as on ManoMano: who is selling, at what price, compared to the recommended retail.
Darty and Fnac
The two retailers from the same group showed rare and brief reappearances in our data — windows of a few tens of minutes. In other words, a daily manual check has practically no chance of catching them.
Tecnomat (ex-Bricoman)
The depot network for professionals and individuals has restocked it several times: 6 complete cycles observed since late June, including a record window of over 60 hours. A notable feature in early July: a pre-order phase (“order today, collect in store later”) that our alerts distinguish from stock that is genuinely available. Real-time availability is reserved for subscribers.
Boulanger
The product listing was removed from the site in early July 2026: the device can no longer be ordered there, and monitoring the old page is pointless. If Boulanger lists it again, it will re-enter our tracking.
What does the Midea PortaSplit 12,000 BTU cost?
Midea's recommended retail price is €999. French retailers sometimes offer it slightly below that in promotions; conversely, during a heatwave, third-party sellers — particularly on marketplaces — list it at €1200, €1400 or more. Always compare against the recommended price before buying.
The mark-up is the price of impatience. Being notified at the right moment usually means buying at the normal price rather than paying the shortage premium.
How not to miss when it's back in stock
The table above reflects the real situation at the last update. But a restock window can open at any time. By setting up an alert, you provide your postcode and a radius: as soon as a store in your area — or an online shop — is restocked, you receive an email with the store, price and direct link. Monitoring runs for the duration of your chosen plan: 1 week or 1 month.
What to do during the shortage? The checklist
While waiting for the next restock, six habits that make the difference on the day:
- Set your maximum price in advance — the recommended retail is €999; decide now, with a cool head, whether a surcharge suits you, not when a cart is about to expire.
- Identify two or three retailers with click-and-collect near you: on restock day, in-store pick-up is often available when home delivery isn't.
- Bookmark the direct product listing for each retailer — not the search page, which re-indexes with a delay.
- Be wary of second-hand listings or private sellers above the new price: in the thick of a shortage, they are rarely a good deal and sometimes fraudulent.

'Available in store' on a retailer's website: is it reliable?
Not always. Online inventory can lag behind what's actually on the shelf (same-day sales, reserved items or items in a pick-up zone). Before travelling, call the store or use the online reservation option where available.
Does Boulanger still sell the PortaSplit?
