What the announcement says
According to Lidl France's management, quoted by Enerzine, the retailer is putting approximately 200,000 units on shelves from Thursday, 2 July — around 125 units per supermarket — priced between €179 and €199 depending on the model, centred around the TRONIC 9000 BTU B1 mobile air conditioner (own-brand, 3-year warranty). We did not find any official public press release detailing the operation.
What we were able to verify — and what we cannot
On lidl.fr, on the evening of 2 July, the TRONIC 9000 BTU B1 was available for purchase online — listed at €249, above the €179 to €199 range announced for stores. The discrepancy is not explained in the announcement; in-store prices may differ from the online shop.
Lidl is not among the retailers monitored by ClimRadar: we can neither confirm availability store by store, nor track the progress of this operation. What our readings do show, as of 2 July at 9:30 PM: none of the 237 points of sale monitored in France has the Midea PortaSplit in stock, and the De'Longhi Pinguino GentleJet remains available in 4 out of 94 monitored points of sale. A 200,000-unit operation is therefore arriving on a near-empty market.
A budget single-unit: who it's right for
The TRONIC 9000 BTU is a single-unit (monobloc) mobile air conditioner: the entire appliance — compressor included — stays inside the room, with an exhaust hose through a cracked-open window. Under €200, it can be useful for occasionally cooling a modestly sized room. Its limitations are structural: compressor noise inside the room and reduced efficiency from the half-open window. It is not in the same category as a split mobile, whose compressor sits outside.
In other words: Lidl's announcement meets a real need for volume in the heat of summer, but it does not restock the most in-demand category — mobile splits, which were nowhere to be found on shelves on 2 July.
